Soteria…Her use of language is amazingly beautiful. Her words echo from someplace deep in her soul calling forth the ancestors to tell their stories and ours. She is walking artistry. Her words bellow out reaching into the hearts of her audience. We sit captivated by her commands of words. She is indeed a word smith who knows how to invite people of all races, religious and spiritual backgrounds, sexuality, nationality and ages to feast at her table of poetry and song. She feels the heartbeat of people. Her message resounds with the urgency for freedom, justice and liberation for all people. She understands the importance of standing in her Blackness and Womanness. This sista is the real deal! Soteria brings forth the energy of our sista Audre Lorde. “I am who I am doing what I came to do, acting upon you like a drug or chisel to remind you of your me-ness, as I discover you in myself.”

Soteria has an energy about her when she speaks that is so inviting and warm. Her energy engages even the most introverted person, welcoming them to jump in and participate. Soteria has a talent for challenging others, pushing them out of their comfort zone in the most supportive way possible. She challenged paradigms I have long held in a way that was reassuring and supportive. Her workshop energized me to strive for transformation, both in myself as well as my surroundings.
